CATHERINE HOPE-JONES celebrates
the dramatic landscape site, estate and
inspirational “garden of rooms” which is
“Kiftsgate” that lies on the edge of the North
Cotswold’s escarpment close to her home.
In this exhibition Catherine also celebrates
remnants of the great “lost” 18th century
landscape garden of William Beckford in the
“arcadian” tradition at “Fonthill” in Wiltshire
which she discovered whilst walking.
“I regard my preliminary drawings and
collages as “found” objects which I use
as stepping stones into a more fanciful
imaginative experience. The developed
images reflect my emotional responses to
a site over time that become distilled and
concentrated in studio and visually shift
between realism and abstraction. For this
show a degree of theatricality may have
entered my work".
